01 · The situation

Put the story first.

22 Jumps raises money for veteran suicide prevention through BASE jumps and adventure retreats. The story is powerful, and the site needed to lead with it.

The redesign put the story first. I removed the nine pages it replaced and pointed each one at its new home, so no old link breaks. The blog became "Stories", at the same address, because other sites link to it.

02 · The launch

Four months of donations stay where they are.

The live site had four months of real orders and donations on it. The usual migration tools would have overwritten them.

So I built a deploy that carries the new design onto the live site and leaves the data where it is.

03 · Donations

Ask for the amount first. Make the first step smaller.

The donation form now asks how much before anything else. The default dropped from $1,000 to $100 one-time or $50 monthly.

On phones, the hero shows a still image instead of a 4MB video loop. Autoplay is unreliable on mobile, and a donor's data plan matters more than a decoration.

04 · Site Numbers

One screen for every number that repeats.

Eight key figures appear again and again across the site. Each copy could drift. Now all 21 instances across 9 pages read from one screen in WordPress. Change it once, it's right everywhere.

One number stayed out on purpose. "22 veterans a day" is quoted from a VA report. Putting it on that screen would let a future edit quietly rewrite a cited source.

Why it matters

A brand that breathes tells one story, the same way, everywhere. The system behind it is what keeps it true.
